...the real magic of the piece lies in what we hear from the orchestra - the fine, brave solos, the clatterings of tuned percussion, the ruminative regrouping for melodies, the moments of attack when the music suddenly swivels all is attention to what is happening on stage - and everything was magnificently done... the orchestral music was now heard at its full strength - and superbly played by the Györ Philharmonic under Andreas Mitisek

Once again, Andreas Mitisek has proved himself to be one of our best young conductors. With instinctive assuredness he led the Savaria Symphony Orchestra and the Budapest National Philharmonic Choir through the monumental score. His tremendous sensibility of tone magically drew elysian beauty from the splendor of Enescu´s Im-and Expressionism.

Musically however this "Freischütz" was on a safer ground. The Austrian conductor Andreas Mitisek conjured up a fair amount of idiomatic color and atmosphere from Weber´s endlessly melodic score eliciting sturdy playing from the Seattle Symphony and lusty singing from the chorus of happy, peppy peasants.(Freischütz, Seattle Opera 1999)

Both operas are conducted with exceptional clarity and focus by Andreas Mitisek, who brings the works together by emphasizing the gripping sinew of Puccini´s score and the warmth and colour of Dallapiccola´s. (Tabarro + Nightflight, Long Beach Opera)

Reviews

Dramatically arresting and full of Mozart obsession was the musical conception of Andreas Mitisek, who offered vigorous, fresh tempi and who also had at his disposal a good ensemble with the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, mastering near-impossible tempo demands (W. A. Mozart: Entführung aus dem Serail)

Austrian conductor Andreas Mititsek led the Vancouver Opera Orchestra in a performance full of spiky detail, colour and alertness to Stravinsky´s constantly changing meters. (Rake´s Progress, Vancouver Opera 2000)

A further hero of both performances was conductor Andreas Mitisek, who presided at the harpsichord for the Molière, and drew the full colour spectrum from the alert orchestra in the Bartok. More than any of the excellent participants, it was Mitisek´s inspired leadership that, once again, put Long Beach Opera on a sound basis. (The Invalid Imaginary, Bluebeard´s Castle, LBO 1999)

Andreas Mitisek led the orchestra (which was behind the stage and invisible to the audience) played securely, thrillingly and exacting, despite lightly-echoing acoustics (H. Birtwistle: The Second Mrs. Kong)

The Orchestra of the Wiener Volksoper was in excellent form... and conductor Andreas Mitisek is an outstanding Britten expert who ventured to bring out all the refined nuances of this wonderful, colorful score, bringing to light all the spiritual depths of Britten´s music.

Andreas Mitisek was a dream come true for this production, his engagement by the Volksoper was a real stroke of luck. Under his direction the singers and orchestra brought out all the beauty and wonderful details of Britten´s score (B. Britten: Midsummernight´s Dream)

LBO´s biggest surprise, however, came in the form of three brilliant leading ladies - and in the superb playing of a pared down orchestra, conducted by Andreas Mitisek with tremendous excitement and revelatory attention to detail. (Elektra, LBO 2001)
